BMW Group has completed its first fully automated foreign exchange transaction using JP Morgan's blockchain-based Kinexys Digital Payments network. The EUR to USD payment between Frankfurt and New York treasury accounts marks a watershed moment for programmable finance.

Settlement occurred in NEAR real-time—under 120 seconds—demonstrating blockchain's ability to bypass traditional banking hours. The system automates balance checks, conditional deposits, and cross-border execution through smart contract-like predefined rules.

Kinexys has grown tenfold since its pilot phase, exceeding JP Morgan's expectations. The platform's integration with treasury management systems eliminates operational friction for corporate clients. BMW heralds the technology as transformative for global liquidity management.
